I felt almost bad giving this only one star. When I was younger (say, 11 or 12), I adored Yuu Watase. She was one of the very first mangakas who introduced me to the manga world. Looking back on it now, I almost feel like she's overrated. Although, her manga is great for beginners. I thought her work was the greatest thing and that there was nothing else like it. Now that I've read more manga, her work suddenly seems below par. I've seen the same plot and the same stereotypical characters too ma..more

This is my favourite of Watase's series. The topic is slightly more dark, and the protagonist slightly less 'sweet' than her others.

i think i was in highschool when i came across the anime while channel surfing and saw it on AXN.
i loved it right away.
well there were some disturbing points in the story like incest (between aki and aya) and well the bed scenes and violence.
but like i said before it's essential to the story since it revolves around aki, aya and touya.
however i had to secretly watch the show since it contains mature stuff-which i'm not allowed to watch.hehe and i had to compete for the telly!!lol

Having read Watase’s work before, this clearly echoes her style: beautiful art, cliche plots, and unhealthy romantic triangles. One of them seems to be her own age, which is sixteen, but her other love interest is CLEARLY older. At a guess, I’m thinking mid-twenties. Creepy. But the art is definitely pretty. I’ve always admired Watase’s art. Still, her comics don’t really withstand the test of time. Going back and reading her books just makes me realize how limited her stories and characters wer..more

This manga is described as horror and that fits because it is much darker than Yuu Watase's other series. There is a lot of violence and this is displayed clearly from the vivid illustrations to the story itself it is rated correctly for older teens. But it is also a very good story there is folklore, fantasy, scifi and definitely romance because this is after all a shojo manga. Give it a read, I thought it was a a very good story that had me laughing and cringing and crying.

I found out Ayashi No Ceres back in 2010, and since then I've been telling myself I had to read it. Again, why did it take me so long to actually do it? It has a pretty cool story, and I really like the art.
So hello manga world.. I'm here to stay.

Yuu Watase is my favourite manga creator - the level of emotion in her stories is second to none and I love her epic story lines, beautiful art and just how much story she crams into each volume - seriously you never feel cheated when picking up one of her volumes because there's just so much depth packed in there.
So in this series - Aya and her twin brother Aki go to their grandfather's for their 16th birthday and are presented with a mummified hand. Aya suffers visions of blood and suddenly th

2.5 for the series.
I feel this could have been much shorter than it actually is. And I also feel like some characters were unnecessary, or just didn't end up being as important as you'd expect. Not a favourite.

I ended up getting the whole set of this series for a really good deal online. So, you know what that means? That I will be reviewing all of the volumes as I read them. I’m not sure how quickly that will go by, but either way, it’s happening.
This first volume was alright (aside from the fact that the first page in my copy was missing: ugh!). Not amazing, not horrible, but I’m sure it will only get better from here. I have read several other series b

Oh, Yuu Watase. For a for chunk of the mid '00s to early '10s, her work was absolutely inescapable within the manga world. Gorgeous artwork combined with surprisingly well written stories (for the shojo genre, anyway), Watase's pioneering works are unrivaled even today. Of her many excellent multi-volume series, none can compare to her darkest and most mature manga, CERES, CELESTIAL LEGEND.
The story of the first volume is quite straight forward. When Aya Mikage and her twin brother turn sixteen,

Art: From the Artist of Fushigi Yugi. The art is soft and shojo and really a joy to look at the boys are hot and sexy and bishi while the girls are delicate the art is really well done B+

I love Ceres. As a series it is so addictive. The storyline is creepy, interesting, violent, and romantic.
The complex story of Aya is the most griping part, as well as how she interacts with all the people in her life. she is battling this inner demon most of the series, an angel named Ceres. However, in this b

A re-read of one of my favorite manga series. I got so many nostalgic feelings and anticipation for future events in the story to unfold. This first volume is not perfect and does move pretty fast but the slapstick humor juxtaposed with the horrifying events happened to Aya seem so natural and feels wonderful being able to find humor in difficult situations. The pacing reminds of me more of anime in how scenes and panels transition and are framed w

I read this series in high school - I think it was the second of her manga series that I started. I love Yuu Watase's art style and I've read and own pretty much everything she's published.
I finished the series more because I like her and wanted closure than from enjoyment of the storyline. What starts as a typical 'girl meets hot guy and falls in love' story gets progressively more creepy and weird as the storyline progresses into who the main characters were in a previous life and their relat

Meh. This series is so-so.. the Mikage family is descended from a legendary celestial maiden of Japanese myth who married a human when he stole the feather robe that she needed to get back to Heaven. For some reason, at the age of 16 every woman of Mikage blood needs to be checked to see if she carries the powers of the celestial maiden. Aya has the powers, in spades, and this means that her family must kill her.. for some reason. We don't really know why the maidens are a threat to their fami..more

The series was a big ole confusion to me when I was younger. But rereading it helped see it was cool. No holds on this manga, anything goes and that made it intense. I will say I had my favorite characters. Yuhi was always my favorite because this story was so dark and he just made everything seem like it would turn out okay. Him and that crazy oba-San. I'm not going to write a lot of manga reviews, simply because there are so many volumes in each series and I go through them far faster than novels. However, this series deserves a recommendation. Yuu Watase is without a doubt my favorite manga artist. Her artwork is always gorgeous, granted most popular shojo manga art IS, but hers really stands out as excellent. This series combines typical shojo supernatural/ magical girl business with elements of mythology and it contains an adult twist on t..more

Yuu Watase is an amazing storyteller and draws some gorgeous artwork! She is one of my favorite manga authors and I love everything she has done. The characters in Ceres are amazing and imaginative and extremely easy to relate to. She is able to capture the character’s emotions amazingly with a realistic outlook on life.
