The ClientRegistry.blob file, which resides in the root of your Steam folder, is essentially a binary/cache file used to store preferences and other settings. This file can sometimes become corrupt and cause (over 25% of Steam related) problems. In the properties window, click the Local Files tab and click the Verify Integrity of Game Cache button. Running ubuntu 12.10 with the *.10 Nvidia drivers.

This is my issue. Steam started, updated, and now won't start. it throws the error:
Fatal error: Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xffbb2f40) failed with error 1 CMultiFieldBlob(pSerialized): Partial field header at end of record.

The thread shown above says to delete ClientRegistry.blob.. but I can't find that file to delete it. Searching my file system comes up empty.

I was a Windows network admin for 14 years, but I'm a linux newbie and could use some advice.

Steam stores its files inside a hidden directory ~/.local/share/Steam/ unless you have picked a different location for it. ~ is a shortcut to mean the user’s home dir, which should be /home/username/
As such you’ll need to open the file browser, show hidden files, locate .local, and follow that up into Steam and the registry blob will be inside :)

Please confirm if this fixes the issue for you.

Hey guys and girls. I noticed that, in all of my Steam installations, the file clientregistry.blob is missing. I have a handful of Steam installations across a few computers. All of them are missing this file. It used to be in every install prior to the update which came with a new logo and Steam Web Helper (just noticed the file missing around the time this update came).

The reason I was looking at this file is because I've recently been having a ton of problems with 'issue with your computer blocking VAC' in CS:GO and TF2. It is recommended on Steam's support site that you rename this file and allow it to re-acquire itself. I have uninstalled/re-installed Steam, deleted all Steam files but SteamApps+steam.exe and re-acquired Steam, validated cache, tried both beta and non-beta versions of Steam.

I know that this VAC blocking problem is a big issue right now. My question isn't necessarily how to fix that because I know there's nothing concrete..but I would like to know if any of you are missing this file as well? Was it removed with a recent Steam update?
